In these 2-hour workshops, students get to dress-up, dance, and learn pantomime from excerpts of the Nutcracker story. For Part I, students will learn Clara’s solo dance with her new Nutcracker Doll, then her role in the rescue of the Nutcracker followed by a dance with her partner, the Nutcracker Prince. In the second half of the Part I Workshop, students learn a beautiful dance of the falling Snowflakes from the Land of the Snow in lovely white tutus, or prince costumes.

In the Part II two-hour workshops, students will learn a beautiful dance in gorgeous satin dresses for the Angels who anticipate the arrival of Clara, the Prince, and the Sugar Plum Fairy. Clara's/the Prince's pantomime relaying the battle between the soldiers and mice is always great fun to learn in this workshop!

In the second half of the Part II Workshop, students learn steps and phrases from the beautiful waltz of the flowers danced in pretty flower tutus, and dragonfly attire!

Dance class plus warm-ups & stretches precede workshop themes.

In Grandma's Attic is a children's fantasy dance program now celebrating 22 years of dance offerings in NYC! The world of ballet comes alive for dancers age 2–17 with daily, weekend, after-school classes, and summer workshops in this alternative creative ballet program which uses dress-up, make-believe, improvisation and, of course, dance training at all ages and skill levels starting right at preschool. Using both fairytales and original stories, In Grandma’s Attic gives students the look and feel of ballet as a performance art while they explore and reenact stories through dance with the guidance of their teacher.
